Have you started planning your holiday or travel destinations for 2020 yet? A new year always gets me thinking about potential places to go, although this year I’m sure I will be taking a bit more time to think over the next destination as I’m still on the road enjoying the current one!
There’s also just too many places I still want to visit. Although, I also enjoy heading back to cities that I haven’t been to for a few years and seeing how they have or haven’t changed.
If you live in the UK you will understand the lack of warm weather we tend to get for most of the year. Although, despite this I’m not a big fan of a hot destination and I’m certainly more an adventurer than someone you will find sitting on a beach.
If it’s sights and culture you enjoy then you will probably want to consider my suggestions for your next destination, unless of course you have some recommendations of your own?
My 2020 travel recommendations include 2 destinations that I’ve visited more than once, and would still return. The others are certainly going to get repeat visits at some point.
Spring
The UK is actually reasonably nice to visit in springtime. I would highly recommend Northumberland and in particular Seahorses to see the puffins around April time.
However, I really rate Morocco at this time of year. Despite not looking it the first time I was in Marrakesh (that was in August when it was too hot), I’ve been back twice since and really loved it. Read more about this in Memories from Morocco.
I especially enjoyed the southern region which I felt had more to experience. Whereas the northern area and coast tends to be popular with those that like to relax a little.
Don’t miss Marrakesh and it’s souks. But also note that Marrakesh is completely different to the rest of Morocco. Consider Essaouira on the coast for something laid back or take a hike to Berber village in the Atlas Mountains for a more local experience.
The food in Morocco is surprisingly varied and home cooked dishes in particular are really very good. Check out more recommendations in my Must try Moroccan meals post.
Summer
The Lake District in the UK is often high on my list for visiting in the summer months, although it can be busy.
If you prefer to venture overseas, and perhaps avoid the school holiday crowds Argentina might tick a few boxes. There are a lot of different areas to either base yourself or visit. The public transport system between the main cities is pretty good so it’s easy to get around.
Buenos Aires it a must do, so spend a few days here if you can. The city feels very European, but there are certainly many areas where you can experienced local life. Try out tango dancing and make sure you seek out La Boca.
Iguazu Falls should of course be on your to do list but head over to the Brazilian side first and then get up close on the Argentinian side.
If you enjoy trekking, there are plenty of options in the area but prepare to rough it a little too.
Autumn
Always at the top of my list of recommendations is Albania. You can visit any time of year although the low season after October until around April, can mean many places are closed. So September is the best time to visit in my opinion. After the summer crowds have left and the temperatures are still warm but it’s not too hot.
My recommendation would be to head south and of course spend a few days in the capital Tirana. The rest of Albania is very different and the food is amazing everywhere.
There’s something for everyone in Albania. If you prefer a beach holiday, consider Albania’s beaches over Croatia. The price difference is substantial and it will be much less touristy.
Winter
There are so many places I could recommend to get away during wintertime in the UK. Just avoiding the festive period and the cold weather is a different experience at this time of year. You might (like me) even find yourself doing this more regularly in future.
For something a little different, I recommend a visit to Myanmar (Burma). For one, you have to fly in from Thailand or somewhere else in Asia, and that’s a good reason to enjoy a stop-over en route.
Myanmar is still largely unvisited. However it won’t be for much longer. Asian tourists are already heading there in large groups, which at least means the infrastructure is improving. You really should visit soon and experience it before too much changes.
Get some more tips for a visit to Myanmar here. If you need help deciding on which destination to spend time in before Myanmar, Bangkok would be my to suggestion. An updated post to follow later this month on that.
For now though, I’ll just wish you all a Happy New Year! I look forward to hearing your 2020 travel recommendations or suggestions and plans. Happy travels and take care x

Knowing about the weather of the tour venue is the primary and necessary step. The best thing i like in your post is that you have discussed the places by keeping in mind the weather of the city. When will be the suitable time for the tour to UK?
I would suggest Spring or Summer is the best time to visit the UK – May and September are generally good months if you come prepared for changeable weather. Then of course the peak visiting time of July/August is warm but busy.
