This weeks post is a bit late today, as I’ve only just returned home this evening after a few days away.
The second Gromit Unleashed trail in Bristol which has been going for almost a month now, will be running until early September with the sculptures then being auctioned off for the charity. Of course with my creative interest, I couldn’t resist checking out some of the artwork whilst visiting Bristol this weekend. There are a lot of sculptures to find, so I thought as well as sharing a few pictures I’d share my gromit trail tips to help you enjoy the fun.
A perfect way to keep the kids busy during school holidays, get some fresh air and explore Bristol. Check out the official site for more details.
1 Map or App
The Detect-O-Gromit 2 official app is available for iPhone and Android, although at £1.99 with only part of this being donated to charity, I personally preferred the pdf download and paper map (which you can pick up at several locations), then allowing me to donate the money instead.
2 Keeping track
Take photo’s as you find them, use the #GromitUnleashed and #GU2 tags when sharing on social media. Or simply cross them off as you find them. Either on the paper copy of the map. Or of course if you have the app you can capture the photo’s there. There’s also a handy list of all the codes which will help tick them off or view them (spoiler alert) all here.
There are 3 characters to look out for, Gromit, Wallace and Feathers McGraw. Some beautiful art to check out too…
3 Planning ahead
The trail is split into 7 areas – the Habourside and Bristol Trails can be done on foot fairly easily, although it’s a lot of walking. The other trails will require your own transport.
A word of warning, that some of the statues are located inside buildings and are therefore only accessible during the daytime. Don’t try and search out those inside shops or museums after hours or you will be disappointed.
4 Explore Bristol
Don’t just head to Bristol for the trails, spend a few days as we did, exploring. The city has so much to offer and is a great place for a short break. Check back soon for my recommendations of other things to do.
5 Get your own
Want to get your hands on one of the sculptures, then keep an eye on the grand appeal website for details of the auction where bidders will be able to get their hands on their favourites. If you aren’t likely to be able to stretch to a bid, then just enter the raffle [link now expired – removed] for your chance to win the Tropi-canis for just £2.50 per ticket. All proceeds will go to the charity, and the draw takes place on 7th September.
If you fancy a smaller version, there are a number of figurines available in the shop as well as plenty of other merchandise.
The trail runs until 2nd September so start planning your trip to and around Bristol whilst the weather is fine.
