Another side to Zurich: Street Art

The city of Zurich is well known as a hub for finance and commercial activity. So, most visitors would probably take the view that Zurich isn’t really the sort of place you would expect to find street art. If, like me, you venture off to look for it, you soon find a very different side to the city.

Surprising the street art in Zurich isn’t confined to one or two areas, it’s quite scattered. Including both legal and illegal work.

It’s also one of the first cities I’ve been where the station and river areas weren’t the main locations for street art. However, I didn’t have time to venture out too far. So disappointingly found a lot of graffiti as well as ‘art’. Apparently there is a lot of work near Prime Tower and the Viadukt.

The Sunday morning remains of late night drinkers, spilled out onto the pavement close to some of the really good stuff, so I didn’t get too close. Some of this work seems to have been there a few years, so isn’t looking it’s best.

Along the river area, there was plenty of evidence that the art work had only recently been painted. I’m sure there is plenty more to find. In fact, here are a couple of sites with location info.

Street art really is everywhere. There are many cities, around the world that have taken part in festivals, commissioned work or actively encourage the creation of street art. Check out more of these from my travels #streetart.
