Europe’s internal borders are starting to open up and more countries are expected to follow this week. Which means those within the continent are being able to consider the possibility of travelling to a European destination. International travellers are likely to follow soon.
European travellers
Unfortunately every country has it’s own rules, so you will need to check the details fully. There’s a helpful map on the Euronews website summarising the countries currently open to those within Europe and more details are included in the related post.
Travellers from the UK
Those of us in the UK continue to hope that the FCO advice against all but essential international travel will be lifted soon. For now, all we can do is enjoy the Summer and start short listing destinations that we might be able to visit in the coming months. The countries on the list to be considered for potential air bridges/corridors with the UK is a good place to start. If you need some ideas, below are my initial recommendations from the countries on the list.
International travellers
If all goes to plan with the European Commission’s recommendations, international travellers may also be permitted to visit Europe from 1st July, albeit with limitations.
Where to start
Europe is home to a vast array of experiences, cultures and history. With something to appeal to every traveller. As the peak of summertime approaches, I would recommend heading to some of the usually popular places first. As many travellers are delaying trips; if you’re able to travel, make the most of it and maybe consider some of these first:
Malta
With a year round warm climate and plenty to see and do. The fact they speak English is also a draw. Check out my post: Malta left me in awe, for more or if you’re planning a trip don’t miss 5 of my recommendations.
Spain
There are so many places to choose in Spain to visit. My favourite is by far Seville, although it can be super hot in the summer months; it’s a great place to hang out most of the year. Check out my post: How to spend 2 days in Seville, for ideas of what to do. Or if you fancy a cooler city, Barcelona is also a good shout. Check out my post: Visit Barcelona on a budget.
Cyprus
With both beaches and culture, Cyprus will appeal to everyone. For me it was interesting to see the Cyprus beyond the beaches and spend time Exploring the Green Line.
Fingers crossed we can all start heading to Europe soon. Where else should be on the destination list first?
