If you are planning a visit to Vilnius Lithuania, don’t just stick to the Old Town with its beautiful buildings and cobbled streets. There’s a lot of local life away from the tourist trail, and pockets of artwork to admire.
Vilnius is a beautiful city for a break but most people don’t head here for the street art. However, much like in any other city, the street art can take you places you wouldn’t have otherwise seen. Here’s some pointers to help with finding street art in Vilnius.
Where to look
Stickers, stencils and even quotes can be found scattered around the whole city, if you look close enough you will see this. For the larger pieces of street art in Vilnius there are a few areas to explore.
Train Station/Pylimo Street
The train station District in Vilnius has undergone some gentrification in recent years. With many murals painted during a street art festival in 2015, you will find a variety of art work round many corners in this area, particularly along Pylimo Street.
Olimpieciu Street
There’s an open gallery by the Neris River next to Žirmūnai Bridge. The street art along her changes regularly. It’s a great space to spot art in progress too.
Užupis
The Republic of Užupis is a Bohemian area of the city full of artists and artwork. With some trendy bars and quirky shops it’s worth a visit for more than just the street art.
The Vilnius Tourism site has a great map plotting some of the log standing pieces of street art, which is a great place to start your search.
